item of streaming

Boston Early Music Festival has been running in-person concerts this year but taping them for delayed streaming -- which is really nice for those of us who used to go to things and now cannot. Their latest, with soprano Carolyn Sampson and fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout in a program of Mozart, Haydn, et al., goes live on Saturday, April 9th. You can find the details at bemf.org, along with info about the rest of the BEMF season.

Meantime here's a taster of the album Songs of Separation, out now on the Bis label.

while we wait

Just when you thought you might slip outside for a little Spring...give it up, it's not here yet. But never mind, NDR and Händel-Festspiele Göttingen have entered into the video streaming game with Siroe, re di Persia from the 2013 festival.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on NDR, period keyboardist Kristian Bezuidenhout diskutiert Mozart, CPE Bach, Hammerklavier, usw, hier.

Addendum: Glyndebourne 2014 streaming -- looks like they've scaled back (only 3 this year) and jumped the good ship Guardian in favor of the Telegraph. But Tara Erraught's Octavian, that could be fun.

weekend agenda

"I've always been driven by a strong ideal in Mozart that the type of rhetorical landscape that he has, or that he's trying to emulate in his keyboard music specifically, is the landscape of theatre and of opera. And I don't mean any kind of hackneyed references to Figaro and Susanna being characters in a Mozart piano sonata, but the sense in which Mozart's landscape of gestures is paying homage to the type of naturally mercurial timing that you see in any good performance of an opera."

Fortepianist and BEMF regular Kristian Bezuidenhout plays Friday, Feb 21, at NEC's Jordan Hall, as part of the BEMF Concert Series, and Sunday, 4pm, down the other end of the Mass Pike at EMPAC.
