all in a lather

Daniel J. Wakin reports that Peter Mattei will be subbing for back-injured Mariusz Kwiecien at the Don Giovanni opener on Thursday, which the Met will be streaming (for free) from here. Which means Rodion Pogossov will be parachuting into Barber to replace Mattei.  I know this kind of fire drill is fun and generates publicity, but wouldn't it be more cost effective to actually let Dwayne Croft cover, since he's cooling his heels in the wings for that very purpose? Just curious.

  1. Hahah. I always wonder what the purpose of a understudy is when s/he is never ACTUALLY used.

I love Rodion Pogossov, though. And I don't think there'll be too many complaints about Peter Mattei.

  2. I like Peter Mattei, but I like Dwayne Croft too, so I'm going to grumble in the corner for a bit.

And yes, I'm sure complaints will be minimal, though if I were running the costume dept I'd be like "oh for f**k's sake..."
