In the interest of having all these in one place when it's the Met's turn, here's a roundup of (ex post facto) Klinghoffer@ENO print reviews, from Culture Wars, the arts desk, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent, and (via tweet de la Cieca) Bloomberg.
Speaking of the Met, in case anybody missed it, here's the 2012/13 HD season. Huzzah for their deciding to HD the Ponnelle La Clemenza di Tito, but we wonder if that means this production's due for the axe. This prospect could prompt a lot of whinging on our part, but having done Lamentations of the Old Opera Geek in the previous post, all we'll say is: Wouldn't it have been nice if they'd gotten it together to get this on some sort of visual medium back in 2005, when they had both ASvO and Frank Lopardo, a Tito who could actually, y'know, sing the notes -- all of them, in the order in which they were written, even -- instead of... well, never mind. We're sure it will be fine. Dammit.
You will just have to come up to Toronto where you can hear Michael Schade sing all the notes in the right order...
ReplyDeleteOkay I'm in :-) How do we like the rest of that cast?
ReplyDeletefollowing your bread crumbs to the met 2012/13 season, guess they booted Kasarova off their roster... (thadieu)
ReplyDeleteHey Dr T! I see VK hasn't been there since 2004's Werther (I do have that one :) So does the Met not like her, or does she not like the Met?
ReplyDeleteWerther! (not really my favorite i have to admit :-) ), didn't know she sang that at the MET. Well, she has it listed on her schedule for the last 2 years (Carmen/MET Feb/Mar 2013), and she also mentioned in an interview last summer about Der R at the MET in 2013. But then the MET season is released, and i don't see anything... and now that bit on her website is also gone. can't really say who dropped who, but wouldn't be surprised if it's the MET who does the dropping. Actually i was surprised seeing that pairing in the first place, given that VK's Carmen isn't the "typical" sexy one I'd imagine the MET always cast.. but i was soo looking forward to her take and was ready to camp myself in NY during the whole run :-) . (-td)
DeleteToo bad, that would be an interesting Carmen, but it looks like they're not taking any chances with the casting they've come up with. [snore] On the other hand, we're still a long way out, and a lot of shuffling could happen between now and then.
DeleteRosenkavalier is slated for 2013/14, so we shall see about that one. Wish Brad Wilber's Met Futures site was still up, we could check the forecast and then place bets about who would really get the gig :-)
