To be fair, Slate had an article back in September, and Alex Ross posted about it then as well. But I guess nothing much came of all that, so props to Lebrecht for raising it again.
The thing about Redding is it has always been this semi-secret haven for artists and musicians. (And the line in the article about how Leonard Bernstein would have written a check is probably true, b/c at one point, iirc, he was living down the hill.) So one could argue that a little enshrining is overdue.
This is where some of our rich and influential families come in handy! eg. Prince Charles and Dumphries House or Joanna Lumley with the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust.
I wonder why it took an Englishman to highlight this issue?
