The Met's free webcast this week is the premiere of the new production of Un Ballo in Maschera, this Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:25 pm Eastern. (And we've just had the clock reset thing this last weekend, for anyone tuning in from other time zones.)
But I'll likely be at the local indie joint watching last year's Doctor Faustus from the Globe.
Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music videocasts its student production of Massenet's Cendrillon this Friday and Saturday at 8pm Eastern. They do these with a different cast each night, and they're a good chance to catch some rising talent.
Lastly, DtO tweeted a public service announcement about this the other day, but in case anybody missed it, it has quite the guest list.

Wow, Faustus! Too bad our local distributors are not on that list of venues. Let me know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteThere's a really nice (if insanely young) mezzo/musicologist in that crowd of Minko's singers. Marianne something or other. One to watch out for.
(Extra props to you for knowing how to embed that flash video from Salle Playel.)
Faustus was interesting. Period production, as might be expected of the Globe, but with some anachronistic elements. They might have pushed the Faustus/Mephistopheles bromance a little further than they did (having established it early on) and not gone quite so over the top in other areas. But I get a sense it's a fine line in that space, and they like to play to the groundlings.
DeleteThe nice thing about that Salle Pleyel site is they want you to do their marketing for them, so they make it easy to plaster their videos around. Can't claim any special skillz beyond cut n paste.
