snow day

No plows in sight? Might as well make chicken stock and catch up on podcasts in German! NDR Kultur interviews from last month include mezzo Elisabeth Kulman, soprano Olga Peretyatko, and from back in December, Klaus Florian Vogt and Elina Garanca, as well as Hanna Schygulla on her autobiography, Fassbinder, Winterreise, and Om Kalsoum, among other things.

  1. I'll trade your plowless snow for our continuing gales, floods and travel disruption. At least you have something pretty (until the melt)

    1. Those gales make for impressive photos in the Guardian, but I can see it getting old pretty quick.

  2. Time to give the German comprehension a run for its money!

Eyes - there was a thing in the New York times today about flooding in (I think it was) Somerset. It sounded pretty grim.

    1. Yes, parts of Somerset have been under water since December with no sign of a way out. "The Levels" have little drainage, most of it being man-made and many livelyhoods have been lost. My region just lost the main rail link because the Victorians built it right on the coast!

  3. Oh oh. Throw some Schygulla quotes this way, if you managed to listen to that one.

    1. Will do me best. I like her, she speaks at a leisurely pace and enunciates :-)
