sic transit gloria

Metro North, Hudson Line

  1. Is there an explanation for this?

    1. Metro North went through a civic pride phase at one point in its history, so the older red cars (which are usually attached to New Haven Line trains) have Connecticut-relevant names: Charles Ives, Mark Twain, Naugatuck Valley, etc. Older blue cars have New York names. So I went down in the Charles Ives and came back in the John Cheever.

They've since given up on this practice, though, so the newer cars just have numbers. Boring, boring, boring...

  2. Totally boring. Though if Metro North is anything like LIRR or NJ transit, it would probably be sort of confusing to hear "if you're in Charles Ives, Mark Twain, Pequot War or John Winthrop Jr., you need to WALK BACK to exit at New Haven; Charles Ives will NOT PLATFORM at New Haven" or wherever it might be.

    1. LOL I'm likelier to remember if I was in the Pequot War car than Car 4287.
