Hellhound on my Trail
Just when we thought long form music journalism in major newspapers was over and done... This is quite the saga, and I encourage you all to take the time to read it to the end, even if you think vernacular American music doesn't interest you much. Definitely quite the saga - all those references to documents and photos and records going missing were painful to read. I'm glad they included the audio at the end too (with bonus Kronos Quartet!)
ReplyDeleteYes, it was when an archivist at the LOC told me to send all our expired concert posters to him instead of throwing them out that I realized hoarding could be institutionalized in the service of humankind.
DeleteI just love the narrative structure of this piece, I love where it ends up and the winding road it takes to get there, via historical crevasses and epistemological thickets, lost wax and queer history. All sorts of archaeology going on in this thing.
Also I'm guessing it's the first time that History of the Siege of Lisbon has been used to describe the (potential) state of Robert Johnson scholarship.
