    2. Exactly! We've had our two days of spring.

    3. On the other hand, we got rained on today, finally! That was exciting. We've been a little short in the April showers department, so the May flowers were beginning to look wilty.

    1. "Summer" = high 80's (iirc that's low 30's for those playing along in other constituencies) and you can't remember what you did with the window fan, but it's okay because the fridge is full of gatorade and lime jello and the cats like it just fine bc it's more like the planet they come from.

      How's the Macht des Schicksals?

    2. oh, of course superlatives for AH, seen live she's even more... vulnerable. who wouldn't want to catch when Leonora's knees go weak and need a shoulder to lean on.. and when she emerged from heaps of crosses with her eyes wide singing full of conviction to the last note of Pace.. only to rush back hiding behind them crosses... but today (pending managing coughing, damn cold..) i'll get a much more proper view, will report when done running (this whole trip is about running :-) )
(ps- the Mr. was muddled, one too many duets also between him and Don Carlo, significantly highlighting how little time Leonora has )
(ps2- oh i would loooooove this kind of summer, been running around here w/ down jacket..)

    3. I certainly worry about her living in that heap, all those unexpected hard angles to bump into. And I'm sure those crosses don't really keep the rain off.

But isn't she better off when the boys are busy singing at each other elsewhere? Clearly Verdi should have written in more tenor/baritone duets. It might've given her time to figure things out and come up with an alternate plan.

    4. you know i was worried myself, they put her on a 1.5in heels(!) and she was really climbing/running into/out of that heap. as far as i'm concerned, this should be the last i attempt Forza consciously :-) . i was gonna write a 10-page rant but have since calmed down.. though that theater basel ballet was sooooo attractive (and reminded me of that post you had with don carlos.. no clue what that was about :D )

    5. Art is risk! Anyway we're running out of Verdi singers, so you may not have to face the possibility of Forza again anytime soon...or ever :)

    6. PS: looking at that Juditha Triumphans trailer, I'd have opted for that one myself.

    7. i'm still crying about that one, surprisingly more so than the capuleti... and the fact i was sooo close, ack ack ack (gosh i looove shoulder blades ;-) )
actually i'd have given it a very serious consideration if didn't have the cold, once added that in, extra traveling was just too much.. even still recovering now (either that or pollens are very bad here, nose dripping freely now :D )

  3. a bit unrelated but have you gotten tix for the festival? am a bit late already as several of the operas are sold out (the cheapest), though i want to hear Ulysses 2x hopefully, as well as some 10 other concerts :-), currently getting up to $250 in spending, let's hope i don't get sick :D (td)

  4. Yes, at present I'll be at the Lute show and Norbert Rodenkirchen on Thursday night, then Ulisse on Friday night, then BEMF Chamber Ensemble Saturday night, and then Poppea on the last Sunday. Plus a bunch of Fringe things, probably.

The Special Envoy will be at Sequentia, Norbert R, BEMF Chamber and Poppea, and so far AK is only going to Ulisse and Poppea. It's a work in progress :)

What's on your schedule? Don't forget they have a deal on 10% off 4 or more of the official concerts.

    1. yes, i haven't paid yet, they give 10% off 4 or more, that's where am at, let me cross with you here to see where to overlap:
*10lutes, yes, i have that down
*hmm, fri Ulysses cheapo is out, i currently have wed 7pm in basket instead... but i intend to show up on that date to ask for cheap tix, coz i remember particularly liking orchestral part in this, as well as the mezzo

Actually let me list what i wanted to see (though i think it's too ambitious..):
      Mon: The Vocal Concerto
      Tue: Concerto Soave, Phillipe Pierlot
      Wed: Ulisse, Huggett & Weimann
      Thu: Lute show, Vesper 1610
      Fri: Vox Luminis
      Sat: Juillard415&RAM
      Sun: Michael Form & Friends

But i can swap some stuff around if you have something you highly recommend (Norbert R? )
Am still contemplating paying $63 to see D.Hansen in Poppea

(pollen should be gone by then, more that i catch these darn colds for no reason, *still* recovering from the one in Basel.. on top of pollen, finally can breath today, fingers crossed...)

    2. Sounds like a good schedule! Between the lot of us, we'll have gone to everything! We'll at least have to schedule meet-ups to compare notes :)

Norbert R is a spinoff of Sequentia, it'll be medieval, and it will be flutes of various kinds, but beyond that I have no idea. If you're more interested in the baroque stuff, though, that one's probably skippable.I might try to make Vespers, although I've got a ticket for that at Great Barrington the following weekend. I'd love to hear it in Jordan Hall, though.

    3. sounds good. i've revised my schedule slightly to be less ambitious (and more realistic), latest lineup (after checking yt for vespers, think i might have heard it before as well w/ boston baroque, yep just checked i did, though looking forward w/ the bemf ensemble :-) )
      Mon: The Vocal Concerto
      Tue: Concerto Soave
      Wed: Ulisse
      Thu: Lute show, Vesper 1610
      Fri: Vox Luminis
      Sat: Juillard415&RAM
      Sun: Michael Form & Friends

(i took out , Huggett & Weimann on wed at 11pm though would love to see it, but not sure if can survive after ulisse, if can would love to hear that one)

(and we'll compare notes + meet up.. you and your envoy :-) )

    4. The nice thing about the 11pm ones is they're relatively cheap, don't generally sell out, and they're general admission, so you can decide last minute. I may go to that one myself if I get there soon enough.

  5. PS: No, don't get sick, there can be no getting sick. If the pollen is too nasty, I can maybe get the Special Envoy to nick one of those hazmat suits from the Ebola Preparedness closet at her job.
