    1. lol Given the amount of lounging and chatting about music we did last week, are you sure it was a dream?

    2. spillin' into this week, i still re-livin' ;-)
how was L'Orfeo? i remember realllllly loved the music, from the version w/ Jordi Savall i saw on tube (of course w/ SM ;-) , but truly it was realllly great his take w/ the orchestra)

    3. I was just watching a bit of that :)

Orfeo is today. Last night was Vespers. Vespers was really good, although I'm sure it would have been better at all-wood Jordan than at very plush Mahaiwe. On the other hand, Forsythe conquers all :)

    4. oh Forsythe sang in Vespers there? she didn't at Jordan, though i might agree wooden hall keeping the warm sound in rather than diffusing.. have a great time at L'Orfeo! that's with this Canadian singer i like (well, at least from her role Minerva in Ulisse).
ps- did u make it to the dramatic messenger in tube version? ;-)
ps2- i forgot.. this is indoor at berkshire right? given the lovely rain we got...

    5. Yeah, we got both Forsythe and Nathan Medley this time.

And yes, I did make it to the Messenger on the tubes, and Mingardo really does have the right balance. Our Messenger was pretty good, though, and had a few extra things to do.

And yes, indoors. Over and above the rain, the humidity tends to be really high in those hills, and, you know, period instruments get freakier than usual under those conditions.

    6. instruments breathing in life and humidity, i so *love* :-)
i guess they ran out of time for L'Orfeo here with only 1 show that was quickly sold out... you know this work from before? how did you like the music? and orchestra's take? i recall loving the first 2/3.. and then the gods started blah blah blah and it got a bit dragging (from tube version), blame it on not having the messenger at the end to keep me watching :D
ps- i went back to watching a little of it again today.. i sort of like Ulisse's music better because of the contrasts in singing (those parasites make for really nice contrasts with Penelope's sadness), either that or there's not enough mezzo/contralto scattered through :D

    8. Was that the first line or the second line? We got the heavy stuff last night, I had to close the window it was so loud. If the second line, it probably sucked up all the moisture dumped here by the first one and dropped it on you guys over there.

    9. oh, it was pouring heavily through the night last night too, then quite a show this evening.. i opened all windows as it reminded me quite a bit of viet nam, very soothing. :D (and we used to have metal roof..)
