Somehow I missed
this bit of groovy info, but I submit that my failure to connect on the very clear dedication all these years was due to some Reagan-era disinformation campaign about the identity of the Massenet in question, and it's all William Casey's fault, the lyin' dead bastard.
now I'll always hear that oh,souverain as oh, superman! haha. I always thought the song was annoying and harboured the same feeling about Massenet in general ;-) It's fun having a competent explaination why.
ReplyDeleteWe submit that O Superman is a late 20th century classic of political commentary and Massenet's orchestrations are just crazy stupid fun, but to each their own :P
