Friday hardingfele from the Ministry of Noise

  1. What is the lower string instrument? Oh wait, no, that's some sort of accordion. There's the fiddle, the pipe, some sort of accordion and yes, another string that sounds almost like bass viol.

Unless there's no accordion, it's all this magical string gizmo... Yeah, I think that's it.

  2. It's hard to tell with hardingfele, because the sympathetic strings bulk out the sound so much, but what I'm hearing is one hardingfele and a bouzouki doubling the melody.

  3. Though it sounds like Roger Tallroth's backup style, so it could also be 12 string guitar.

  4. Ho-ly! I just looked up hardingfele--fascinating. The lower, sympathetic strings resonate the four upper strings.
