Yes, it's over a year away, but Boston Early Music Festival announced today that their 2013 festival opera will be Handel's Almira, with Veronica Cangemi in the title role. This is interesting for two other reasons as well. First, I can't remember them ever doing a Handel opera before -- way too mainstream for their historically-informed punk ethos, even if it is pretty deep catalogue -- and second, it means they've spiked the Graupner thing again.
Not that I'm at all complaining. In terms of the production it's the usual suspects, so the odds are good for feather volcano hats.
