Friday night posting from the Ministry of Noise

  1. I love how the Uilleann pipes can bend notes so easily. I play Northumbrian smallpipes and this is the only video I can find with the two played together - not a match made in heaven but I suppose the two guys were both there and had to do something. The NSP player here is a hero of mine. and has some good stuff on YT.

  2. Srsly, you play Northumbrian smallpipes? That's just awesome :-)

I've seen Andy May a few times, mostly when he's toured over here with Jez Lowe, but that was back in his short-haired days, iirc. Love the video, thought that uilleann piper managed to keep up pretty well :-)

  3. Yes, srsly! although I'm far from expert since I left it until relatively recently to learn and I have to travel far to join in courses. Andy is going through another short hair phase at the moment. I sat in on one of his reed making classes and he let me have the finished product - it's a gem of a reed and I love it.
Do you have any of his recordings?

  4. Is he recording for Fellside these days? This will sound weird, but now you ask I realize that, apart from one very old Kathryn Tickell cassette, there are no dedicated NSP recordings in the Thirdfloorian library at present. In fact the trad department is pretty thin overall, but this is because I used to have access to a substantial catalogue at work, so I never needed to have one at home.

  5. I know "Yellow Haired Laddie" was Fellside but I'm not sure of the label of his latest "Happy Hours" ( downloadable on Amazon )

There's some free stuff here: http://www.myspace.com/andythepipesmay
or I have tracks you can have if you like?

  6. Ah, thanks! will check out myspace, and meantime I'll go hunting. I'm curious to see if there's anyone over here still selling Fellside, now that I and my former homies are out of the biz.
