You've read the reviews, now see the Opera! Okay, well, really just a reminder that Almira, Totally Fictional Queen of Castile, spends this weekend in the Berkshires before retiring into the history books. You can partake of the great Händel tunes and general plot confusion at the Mahaiwe Theater (it's pronounced Ma-HEY-we, in case you're wondering) in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday. Details on performance times here. How on earth to get there, here.
Over on the Britten Centenary side of things, there's this interesting bit in The Guardian on George Crabbe, author of The Burrough, the source material for Peter Grimes.
To fill the complete and utter vacuum created by absolutely nothing going on in New York City in October / November [insert "heavy-handed irony bordering on sarcasm" emoticon here], Lincoln Center's White Light Festival has come up with some tempting programming. Hell no, I did not see Emmanuelle Haïm, Hespèrion XXI, the Tallis Scholars or even the Campbell Brothers on that list. Dammit.
"The soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci’s “Era la Notte” program, which she sings Nov. 13 and 14 at the Rose Theater, is built on Baroque repertory, and includes a performance of Monteverdi’s “Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda” in which she sings both roles as well as the narration."
ReplyDeleteHuh? This could be a catastrophe, or phenomenal.
Yeah, I didn't see that either. Like that lolkitten over on Opera Ramblings' COC post? That's me right now.
