the slippery slope

The Telegraph's Sameer Rahim ventures into the Great Opera Unknown, and promises to tweet what he finds there.

  1. An interesting article! How and when people first came in contact with opera?

  2. I walked down the stairs and smack into Otello. You?

  3. Mine was a case of Deutsche Grammophone LPs with greatest Classical hits. Some of them had Torna mi a vagheggiar, and La ci darem la mano, and overture for Fidelio, and such.

Oh maybe it was the TV broadcasts of the Vienna New Year's concert? Yeah, probably that, because it goes waaay back.

  4. And of all that, what was the first thing that really seized you? And what was the first one you went to?

  5. Not very original here: The Magic Flute was my first opera seen live.

But I want to know how does one smack into Otello at the bottom of the stairs?
